Message in a Bottle ist ein Lied von The Police aus dem Jahr 1979. Es erschien am 21. September 1979 als erste Single aus dem zweiten Studioalbum Reggatta de Blanc. Der Song wurde von Sting geschrieben und handelt von einer Person, die – im übertragenen Sinne – auf einer Insel gestrandet ist und eine Flaschenpost auf der Suche nach Liebe absendet. Die Reggae-beeinflusste Rockballade enthält auch Einflüsse von New Wave und Post-Punk.

Produziert wurde das Lied von Nigel Gray und The Police. Gitarrist Andy Summers sagte, das Riff des Stücks kam ursprünglich in einem anderen Song der Band vor. Während der ersten US-Tour der Band sei es aber überarbeitet worden, so dass Message in a Bottle entstand.
