The Boys of Summer ist ein Lied von Don Henley aus dem Jahr 1984.

Das Lied wurde mit Synthesizern, einem Drumcomputer, Bass und Gitarren eingespielt. Den auffälligen Gitarrenpart steuerte dabei Mike Campbell bei, der auch für die Komposition verantwortlich war, während der Text von Henley stammt. Campbell hatte die musikalische Grundidee zunächst Tom Petty vorgeschlagen, doch dieser lehnte ab; als Don Henley den Song mit Lyrics und einer passenden Melodie versah, wechselte er überdies auch die Tonart, um sie seiner Gesangsstimme anzupassen.

Die Veröffentlichung fand am 29. Oktober 1984 statt; das Lied entwickelte sich rasch zu einem großen Erfolg. Campbell erklärte später, durch die Tantiemen habe er die Zwangsversteigerung seines Hauses verhindern können.
