Billy left his home with a dollar in his pocket and a head full of dreamsHe said somehow, some way, it’s gotta get better than thisPatti packed her bags, left a note for her mama, she was just seventeenThere were tears in her eyes when she kissed her little sister goodbyeThey held each other tight as they drove on through the night, they were so excitedWe got but one shot at life, let’s take it while we’re still not afraidBecause life is so brief and time is a thief when you’re undecidedAnd like a fistful of sand, it can slip right through your handsYoung hearts be free tonightTime is on your sideDon’t let ‚em put you down, don’t let ‚em push you aroundDon’t let ‚em ever change your point of viewParadise was closed so they headed for the coast in a blissful mannerThey took a two room apartment that was jumping every night of the weekHappiness was found in each other’s arms as expected, yeahBilly pierced his ears, drove a pickup like a lunatic, oohYoung hearts be free tonightTime is on your sideDon’t let ‚em put you down, don’t let ‚em push you aroundDon’t let ‚em ever change your point of viewCome on BillyWooYoung heart, be free tonightTime is on, on your sideBilly wrote a letter back home to Patti’s parents tryin‘ to explainHe said we’re both real sorry that it had to turn out this wayBut there ain’t no point in talking when there’s nobody listening, so we just ran awayPatti gave birth to a ten pound baby boy, yeahYoung hearts be free tonightTime is on your sideYoung hearts be free tonightTime is on your sideYoung hearts be free tonightTime in on your sideYoung hearts gotta run free, be free, live freeTime is on, time is on your sideTime, time, time, time is on your sideIs on your side, is on your sideYoung heart be free tonightTonight, tonight, tonight, tonight, yeahOoh, ooh, ooh
