Fischer-Z ist eine britische Rockgruppe um den Sänger, Gitarristen und Dichter John Watts. Sie gilt als eine der populärsten Bands des New Wave Ende der 1970er und in den beginnenden 1980er Jahren. 1982 löste Watts Fischer-Z vorübergehend auf und verfolgte eine Solokarriere unter eigenem Namen. Er reaktivierte 1987 den Namen Fischer-Z. Diesen Formationen gehört allerdings außer Watts kein weiteres Gründungsmitglied mehr an. John Watts veröffentlicht sowohl Solo- als auch Bandprojekte unter dem Namen Fischer-Z.

Fischer-Z war erfolgreich in ganz Europa und verkaufte mehr als zwei Millionen Alben. Es wurden gemeinsame Aufnahmen mit Peter Gabriel, Steve Cropper und Dexys Midnight Runners realisiert. Sie traten an der Seite von James Brown in Ost-Berlin auf und waren mit The Police und Dire Straits auf Tour. Ebenso begleiteten sie Bob Marley auf seiner letzten Festival-Tour durch Europa und waren in den USA und Kanada auf Tour. Fischer-Z hat 19 Alben herausgegeben und rund 3000 Konzerte gespielt.
