Faith ist das Debütalbum von George Michael als Solokünstler. Es erschien im Oktober 1987und wurde nach dem gleichnamigen Song benannt.

Mit über 25 Millionen Verkäufen ist Faith eines der weltweit meistverkauften Musikalben.

Nachdem Wham! bis 1986 zusammenhielt, äußerte George Michael den Wunsch, die Band aufzulösen, da er des Stils der Gruppe überdrüssig wurde. Nach dem Konzert im Wembley-Stadion begann Michael seine Arbeiten am Album Faith. Während der Kleinstteil der Arbeiten gefertigt wurde, erschienen die schon in der Zeitspanne 1984 bis 1985 aufgenommenen Lieder A Different Corner und The Edge of Heaven. Ebenfalls einen Erfolgsanstoss stellte der Song I Knew You Were Waiting (For Me) dar, ein Duett mit Aretha Franklin, das während der Aufnahmesessions 1986 entstand und auf ihrem Album Aretha erschien.Der Großteil des Albums wurde 1987 aufgenommen. Für die Aufnahmen verwendete Michael einen Synclavier 9600, zudem war es seine erste digitale Aufnahme. Einen Teil nahm man in den P.U.K.-Studios in Dänemark und einen anderen Part nahm man in den Sarm West Studios in London auf. Jedes Lied schrieb George Michael selbst, bis auf den Bonustrack Look at Your Hands, den er mit David Austin schrieb. Vom Album ließen sich bisher über zehn Millionen Exemplare weltweit verkaufen. Es wurde Album des Jahres bei den Grammy Awards 1989.Nach der Veröffentlichung hielt sich das Album zwölf Wochen auf Platz 1 der US-Alben-Charts. Es löste zweimal das Soundtrackalbum zum Film Dirty Dancing ab und wurde sowohl von Tiffanys Debütalbum als auch von Van Halens Album OU812 abgelöst
