Genesis ist das zwölfte Studioalbum der gleichnamigen britischen Rockband Genesis und wurde im Oktober 1983 veröffentlicht. Mit diesem Album schaffte die Gruppe endgültig den kommerziellen Durchbruch in Europa und den Vereinigten Staaten, wo Genesis zu Superstars aufstiegen, deren Konzerte Stadien füllten. Mit That’s All und Mama sind überdies zwei sehr bekannte und erfolgreiche Single-Hits auf dem Album enthalten. Genesis erreichte den ersten Platz der britischen Album-Charts

Das Schallplattencover wurde von dem britischen Designer und Fotografen Bill Smith entworfen. Die gelben Formen stammen von dem Tupperware-Produkt „Shape O Toy Ball“. Dieses Spielzeug besteht aus einer zweiteiligen hohlen Kugel, in deren entsprechend geformte Öffnungen die Formen eingeworfen werden können
