Es ist das zweite Stück ihres Albums The Joshua Tree aus dem Jahr 1987 und wurde auch als zweite Single des Albums im Mai 1987 veröffentlicht. Das Lied war ein Hit und erreichte in vielen verschiedenen Hitlisten der Welt Platz eins, so z. B. in den US Billboard Hot 100.

Der Song stammte aus einer Demoaufnahme der Band, in der der Schlagzeuger Larry Mullen junior ein ungewöhnliches Schlagzeugmuster eingespielt hatte.
