Ice on Fire und wurde im September 1985 veröffentlicht.

Der Song wurde von John komponiert, und Bernie Taupin schrieb wie üblich den Text. An den Aufnahmen wirkten George Michael als Sänger und Nik Kershaw an der Gitarre mit. Das Lied erreichte in vielen Ländern Platz eins der Charts , u. a. in Deutschland , der Schweiz , den Niederlanden , Irland , Neuseeland und Schweden .

Das Stück soll die Teilung in Ost und West anhand der fiktiven Figur Nikita darstellen, die an der Berliner Mauer auf ostdeutscher Seite als Grenzsoldat postiert ist. John, der zu der Zeit mit einer Deutschen verheiratet war, verarbeitete damit seine Erlebnisse im geteilten Berlin . Das Stück besitzt angeblich einen autobiographischen Hintergrund: Elton John soll sich 1985 in einen jungen DDR – Grenzsoldaten verliebt und die Unerreichbarkeit des jungen Mannes in diesem Lied verarbeitet haben.
